What is the Child Dental Benefits Scheme?

The Child Dental Benefits Scheme is a bulk billing service that provides basic dental services to children from 2-17 years old and is valued at $1000 over 2 consecutive calendar years.

Goodlife Dental Studio is a registered practice under the scheme and can provide bulk billed child dental services.

Is my child eligible for bulk billing dental services?

The Child Dental Benefit Scheme is typically available under the following criteria.

  • children and teenagers 2 to 17 years old
  • eligible for Medicare
  • you get certain payments for at least 1 day of the calendar year (see table of payments below)

Coverage Notes

  • In 2018, benefits for basic dental services are capped at $1,000 per child over 2 consecutive calendar years. The 2 year cap period starts when a child or teenager first gets an eligible dental service.
  • If you do not use all of your $1,000 benefit in the first year of eligibility, you can use it in the second year if you are still eligible. Any remaining balance will not be carried forward at the end of the second year.
  • Child Dental Benefits Schedule services will not count towards the Medicare Safety Net or the Extended Medicare Safety Net thresholds.
  • The Child Dental Benefits Scheme does not cover orthodontic, cosmetic services or dental services provided in hospital.

How to use the Child Dental Benefit Scheme

  1. You can confirm your child’s eligibility and balance amount by giving us a call on 08 7979 3246 or we can check for you by filling out the form through the link. Alternatively you can log on to your Medicare Online Account through myGov or by calling Medicare on 132 011.
  2. Make an appointment with Goodlife Dental Studio and let us know you are eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule.
  3. When you come in for your appointment, the dental provider must discuss your child’s treatment and any associated costs with you before providing the services. After this has been discussed, you will need to sign a consent form.
  4. After the dental provider has provided the services agreed for your child, they will be bulk billed for the services.
