Wouldn’t you prefer simpler, shorter and more enjoyable dental visits?

Having regular checkup and hygiene visits is the way to achieve that, where the dentist periodically undertakes a routine examination of your teeth and performs a simple clean and polish.

Personalised dental maintenance schedules

We do this regularly to help prevent problems and maintain your teeth in a more predictable way. It is your dental maintenance schedule – very much like your 6 or 12 monthly car service. But unlike car parts, you can't simply order new teeth from e-bay when something goes wrong. So this is why we encourage this system - to minimize your chance of dental problems.

What can our dental exam services include?

We know prevention is always better than a cure and that problems can be dealt with better, cheaper and more effectively at early stages. You only get one set of teeth and we want to help you look after them well. During the checkup or dental examination the dentist will do a comprehensive assessment of your teeth and oral structures then explain it clearly so that you can understand. We will also provide you with a prioritized plan with costings if any treatment is recommended.

Dental Photography

We commonly take photographs with a quality DSLR camera as part of our dental examinations and treatment. They let us more clearly see areas of your mouth for assessment and also act as a good record for monitoring your teeth over time.

Dental X-Rays

Dental x-rays including bitewing, peri-apical and OPG radiographs are routinely taken during your dental examination to help us visualise structures that we cannot see by clinical assessment alone, such as between teeth and below the gum and bone.

Clean and Polish

Our cleaning and polishing process begins with a short assessment of your oral hygiene, gum condition and the amount of build up and stain visually present. Note: We also have 'flouride free' polishes available for those who prefer not to have fluoride use

Our top tips to keep you smiling!

We are always looking to minimize the number of times you need to visit us. Ultimately if we somehow knew how to fix and maintain your teeth so that you never had to come to the dentist, we would consider that a job well done! But that is not the reality...

We can do a lot in our clinic to help you along that path and it is important to know that what we do is exactly that. We are only helping you to solve your problems and to maintain your teeth. Most of the responsibility falls on you to take care of them.

If you take good care of your teeth not only will your mouth be healthier and have less problems but any treatment we do for you will last much, much longer.

So if you want to minimize the number of times you need to visit us and the number of dental problems you have (and possibly also other health problems too), then we recommend you do the following:

  • 1. Maintain a diligent routine

Maintain a diligent routine with good technique of brushing twice per day with a quality toothpaste and electric toothbrush.

  • 2. Keep a balanced and natural based nutrient rich diet

Reduce snacking when possible - frequency of intake is arguably more important than quantity when it comes to dental health especially with sugary, sticky or acidic foods/drinks.

  • 3. Keep well hydrated

As a rule of thumb, if you think you might be thirsty - then you are already dehydrated. Go have a drink of water!

  • 4. No bad habits

Avoid damaging habits like smoking, drugs, alcohol, chewing ice, biting fingernails and objects, clenching/grinding and oral piercings.

  • 5. Follow personalised advice

Follow any specific instructions given to you by your dentist. Such as wearing your night guard or splint.

  • 6. Listen to your body and avoid stress

It is tough, resilient and rarely complains - but it's not invincible. You only get one. Never underestimate what a bit of healthy exercise, rest and relaxation can do.

Scale, Clean and Polish of Heavily Stained Teeth

Case Study

Plaque and food debris in your mouth will harden if not cleaned off regularly with normal home care. This is especially true for sticky soft foods which your saliva finds naturally more difficult to clean away. We call this build up calculus or tartar.

It can form on all surfaces of your teeth both above and below the gum. If left for too long can cause problems such as bleeding gums, tooth decay, sensitivity, gum disease, bad breath, decay and loose teeth.

Build up can be difficult to detect with the untrained eye as is often white or tooth colored. But it can become visible when stained with certain diets or habits such as smoking (as in this case).

We performed a thorough scale, clean and polish in this case to remove the heavy build up.
